Standard Northwest Peloponnisos wild beauty - Kalogria beach

Kalogria beach is located in Nortwest of Peloponnisos (40 Km west of Patras) and it is a sandy beach of 10 Km . It is located in an open-air area , part of protected area of RAMSAR convension , Lagoon Prokopos and Strofylia forest...

The strofylia forest is of great ecological interest because it is the most extensive Pinus pinea forest in Greece and one of the largest in Europe.
The coastal zone has characteristic sand dune formations .

For all of you who have not been there before i post some photos...

Wow!

The landscape is wonderful! This year we will visit Halkidiki but next year maybe....

It's always interesting to see new places and the best way to get interested is from pictures.

Best regards

Inger

Kalispera Ingerp and Epiros , i am glad that you enjoyed the photos
Peloponnese has many beautiful places that still are not overcrowded or spoiled from huge tourism infrastructures.
There is a very big variety of beaches (from little stone/peeble beaches till lengthy sandy coasts) that wait all of you to explore them.
And i tell you something that perhaps you can give me an explanation , i have never seen visitors from Sweden in the region where i live (but also in many places around peloponnese) !
Is it really so uknown there and what is the reason for that? Bad promotion perhaps?

Great pictures, Kratylos!

I don't know why so few Swedes go to Peloponnese, but I know something about why so few Norwegians go (being one myself). One reason is when Norwegians (and I guess, all Scandinavians) think about a holiday in Greece, they think about the islands. I think many don't even consider going to the mainland, as they know absolutely nothing about it. So yes, probably some promotion could help. But there is also another reason, I think. Most of the tourists from Norway/Scandinavia travel to Greece with a charter company, and probably more than 90 % of their tours go to the island.

My husband and I fell in love with Peloponnese some years ago, and have been back every year since then. We have also travelled in Epiros, Sterea Ellada and Thessaly, and this year we will travel all over Macedonia. We think the mainland is much more interesting than the islands, but even so, we love the islands as well!

We have been in Patras, but never to Kalogria beach. But after seeing your pictures, we sure must go there!

Thank you for your answer Admirala!
I think that you are right , all of the reasons above are true.
I remember when i was in Karpathos many people from Norway but also Sweden were there. It seemed to me very strange then because it is just a small uknown (at least to the greek people) island.
Of course most of the islands have the advantage of crystal waters and beautiful landscapes , and this "unique aegean sea" island feeling....
But still i dont see why not even one swedish charter flyes to Araxos or Kalamata airport in Peloponnisos.
I dont think that crete for example has more things to offer to a visitor (except of course the huge hotels which were built the last 30 years) then many other places in Greece. It was just more promoted the last 20 years.
Anyway , i hope that in the near future more people will have the opportunity to visit new places and discover the other side of Greece (the one not promoted from the tour operators).

.
"LILLEPUT", a Norwegian company, offer charter to KALAMATA airport, with hotels/rooms in Kalamata and the lovely places Kardamili , Stoupa and Agios Nikolaos.

In april/may 2003 we went with them to Kardamili
We did rent a car and I really agree with you, Peloponnesos is a beauty - in spring - wonderful.

Kardamili was our "base", from there we did go around the "fingers" to Finikounda, Koroni, Methoni and Pylos. Voidokilia is a lagune/beach we will remember
We also went the other direction to Pirgos Dirou, Arepoli, Itilo, Vathia, Gythio, and Monemvasia.
- to Kalamata, Mistras and Sparta. And of course we did a lot of stops in beutiful small places !
YES, we want to go back!!!!!!

SO, WHY not,.... YET ???
I THINK, the reason why we have went back to the islands ( so far ) is, that in our holidays we really need to relax, and the small islands we prefer are so "limited". Understand?
It seems/feels more relaxed to me to go to 3 or 4 "limited" islands during 3 weeks, than to the "unlimited" mainland with a lot of places we want to visit.

Thank you for beautiful photos

Kari

Hello!

It was nice to see those pictures! I have visited Kalogria and it is really nice place! I am planning to visit there in April too. I am from Finland and sometimes I have written to some Finnish travel agency that they should take Finnish people to that part of Peloponnisos (charter flights to Araxos).,
